What to Expect from your
Home Assessment

Fire Professionals from Evergreen and Elk Creek Fire Protection Districts  will set up a time to complete your Home Assessment.   This exterior visit will take about 2 hours to complete.  The Wildfire Prepared fire professional will evaluate the defensibility of your home, the landscape around your home and complete a personalized report for you with actions you can take to make your home more defensible in a wildfire area..

Importance of Defensible Space

Creating defensible space is essential to improve your home’s chance of surviving a wildfire. It’s a buffer area you create between a building on your property and the grass, trees, shrubs, or any wildland area that surround it. This space is needed to slow or stop the spread of wildfire and it further protects your home from catching fire—either from direct flame contact, embers or radiant heat. Defensible space is also important for the protection of the firefighters choosing to defend your home.

The Gold Standard for Defensible Space

The  Wildfire Prepared Home Assessment program follows the highest standards for defensible space assessment using protocols established by the Insurance Institute for Fire Safety, National Fire Protection Association, Colorado State Forest Service  and the US Forest Service.
